Centuries ago, a legendary interdimensional being known as Zordon came to our planet to establish a command center for his never-ending struggle against evil.
With the aid of his trusted assistant Alpha 5, the noble master sought out several extraordinary teenagers and gave them the power to transform into a superhuman fighting force. In time of great need, the young heroes could use their powers to call upon colossal assault vehicles known as Zords.
Over the years, even after Zordon's demise, many more teams of warriors have risen up to fight the forces of darkness and protect the planet. They have traveled across the globe, throughout the cosmos, and even through time itself, to fight aliens, demons, and mutants.
In most cases, the identities of these protectors remained a guarded secret.
Today, that tradition continues...
Monday, June 8, 2009; 1500 hours; Reefside High School
Parked just outside the schools boundaries sits a black 2008 Scion xB. As the front doors opened, the driver and his partner stepped out, both wearing identical black suits with matching ties and sunglasses. The driver, about 5 1/2 feet tall, sported short, spiky blonde hair; while his partner, an African-American man around six feet tall, walked proudly with a shaved head.
Over at the soccer field, soccer coach Conner McKnight had just let out his soccer practice summer camp for kids. Just as the last of the parents were leaving, Conner began gathering the gear and equipment off the field. However, he was interrupted by the two mysterious men in black.
"Conner McKnight?" asked the man with spiked hair.
"Can I help you, gentlemen?" Conner asked in retaliation.
"Not us," answered the man with a shaved head, "but your services are required. We'd like to ask you to come with us, please."
"What for? Who are you guys?"
"Who we are isn't important," answered the spiky-haired man, "but if you need a reference name, call me X."
"Everyone else has already gathered," explained the other agent. "You're the last one."
"Last for what, exactly?"
"We can't explain anything here; it's too dangerous."
"If you'll come with us, we can show you...everything."
One hour later, the black Scion pulled up to an ice cream parlor downtown.
"Now hold on," Conner protested from the back seat. "I know you two didn't want to bring me here just to get some ice cream. Now I'm only gonna ask this one more time: what is going on here?"
X and his partner were unresponsive. As the three exited the vehicle, Conner followed the two mysterious men down a side alley, still completely unsure of what he was in for. Just as he was about to lose his temper, however, the two men stopped...at a dumpster. X's partner opened the lid and climbed inside, with X just behind him. Conner didn't dare to follow, but was curious enough to look inside: he found...nothing. Absolutely nothing was inside. In fact, it didn't even seem to be a dumpster. X and his partner could stand up perfectly straight, with almost ten feet to spare. Without warning, X's voice echoed up to Conner.
"I would think you wouldn't be surprised by this, Mr McKnight. Especially after everything you've done to defend the planet."
"What, uh...what are you talking about?" Conner asked suspiciously, jumping down into the pit.
"You don't have to be so hesitant, Mr McKnight."
"The name's Conner."
"Well, Conner, perhaps you remember Dr Thomas Oliver?"
"Yeah, he was my high school paleontology teacher, but what does he have to do with this? He studies dinosaurs."
"Forget it. It's time to show you why we were sent to find you." X held down a small button on the wall, next to a speaker. "This is DeSantos and Johnson. We have McKnight, and we're ready to enter."
"Password?" answered a woman after DeSantos released the button. Conner thought he recognized the voice over the intercom.
A thin vertical line of white light spread in both directions from the middle of the wall. A moment later, the 'wall' opened, revealing an elaborate corridor of Power Rangers history: uniforms, weapons, even megazord models lined the display windows on either side, from the first team in the early 1990's, to the recent Operation Overdrive project.
"What...is all this?" Conner asked.
"DeSantos! Johnson!" called a deep, commanding male voice over the intercom. "I want McKnight in the conference room ASAP!"
"Well, that would be Commander Mitchell," DeSantos informed Conner. "He helped organize this whole operation...once we had the information we needed, of course. And, no, I'm not at liberty to reveal that information to you. That's Commander Mitchell's job."
Johnson pressed his hand against an analyser on the wall as he inserted his key card, opening the door to the main lobby of the complex. The room itself was enormous: twenty-five-foot ceilings; half a dozen corridors leading off in various directions to who knows where; and even more relics and artifacts from Power Rangers past.
"This way," DeSantos ordered.
Conner, DeSantos, and Johnson walked through a set of hydraulic sliding doors into a large auditorium. Sitting in eight rows were dozens of people, seemingly no different than anyone else: men and women, aged in their early twenties to mid-thirties, several of them talking amongst themselves.
DeSantos and Johnson had already walked off. As Conner took his seat at the end of the back row next to a Hispanic man with spiky, black hair wearing a black shirt and glasses, he spotted his former paleontology professor up front, standing beside a woman with long, straight, black hair wearing a pair of glasses and a bleach-white labcoat.
"Good afternoon, everyone. For those of you who don't already know me, I'm Dr Tommy Oliver. I teach paleontology and prehistoric biology over at Reefside High, just a few miles from here, although many of you may know me by a few other titles. But for now, I'd like you to please give your attention to Ms Angela Fairweather."
As Tommy stepped aside, the woman, Ms Fairweather, stepped forward to explain the situation.
"Thank you. As Dr Oliver just said, I am Ms Fairweather. Many of you are probably wondering why you're here. If you could each look to either person sitting next to you...(thank you) That person, along with you and nearly everyone else in this room has, at one point, been known as a Power Ranger.
"Each of you has a different background and different training, and you have each been part of different teams, but our hope is that you can all find a way to work together to defeat our newest threat:"
At this point, Ms Fairweather pressed a small button, activating a projector in the back of the auditorium. The pictue on the front wall was of a terrible humanoid monster. It seemed to be a human turned inside-out, so that the muscular and metallic skeletal systems were completely visible. His face was formed by metal plating, his eyes glowing red, with a small antenna protruding from the top of the mask, topped with a jagged letter 'Z'.
"Now hold on just a second!" shouted a man in the front row as he stood up. He was almost six feet tall, with short, wavy dark-brown hair and a well-toned, slightly-tanned body. "Wasn't Zedd taken down years ago? Andros, didn't you--"
"Jason, settle down," Tommy warned from the stage. "This isn't the same Lord Zedd we all knew. This one is...from another timeline. Now, I don't know much, but maybe our special guest speaker could fill us in on a few more details."
Tommy indicated with his arm over to the right side of the room. From off-stage walked a man in-uniform, but not just any uniform; the uniform of the Time Guardian Omega Ranger: armor plating from head to toe in various white, violet, and gold; power level-indicating lights on his wrist-mounted morpher; and to top it all off, he was removing his helmet as he walked, revealing a young man, no older than 20, with long beige hair tied back in a ponytail, with two locks framing his blue-eyed face.
"Thank you, Dr Oliver. Rangers, I'm not going to make this any easier than it already is: you have never faced this kind of power before," Omega declared, slamming his right fist on the podium, "and you're not ready to now. Lord Zedd is from another time, a time where he has already taken over the entire planet Earth, as well as several other planets in and outside of this solar system.
"Zedd attacked me in the Hall of Legends, my home and my charge as a Time Guardian, in an attempt to travel to this timeline where he could have the pleasure of destroying each and every one of you all over again. I followed him, realizing that I couldn't bring all of you through time portals. I've been here for several months now, monitoring Zedd's activities, and trust me, he's up to no good.
"Recently, I met up with Dr Oliver, Ms Fairweather, Cam Watanabe, and Professor Andrew Hartford. Together, we've been devising a way to counter Lord Zedd's evil advances, and we've finally come up with something. Using Tommy's and my knowledge of Power Ranger history, along with Lightspeed Rescue, Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, and Operation Overdrive technologies, we have managed to create a new breed of Ranger, utilizing the most powerful cybernetic technologies on this planet: the Power Rangers, Cyber Force."
